Drop Rate is the percent chance of Noise dropping a pin upon defeat. The drop rate for all pins is multiplied by your drop rate multiplier. Drop rates for pins will never exceed 100%. When a Noise is defeated, it will not drop more than one pin.

The World Ends with You

Most drop rates are low to begin with, but there are a number of ways to increase the drop rate.

  1. Adjust your Level. You can adjust your Level from the Phone Menu by sliding the Level Gauge to increase/decrease your current Level. For every level decreased, your drop rate multiplier increases by one.
  2. Curious Mushrooms and Absolute Shadow Ramen will permanently increase your drop rate multiplier once they digest. Curious Mushrooms increases your drop rate multiplier by one, and Absolute Shadow Ramen increases it by three. These two items are sold at Herbal Remedies (Shibu Dept. Store) and Shadow Ramen (Dogenzaka), respectively.
  3. Wearing pins with the Mother Lode and Grandmother Lode lode psychs increases your drop rate multiplier by a set amount. Grandmother Lode is worth 8 stars, but Mother Lode's value is unknown, presumably 4 stars.
  4. Engaging in a chain battles multiplies your drop rate multiplier by the number of reductions in the chain battle. This is temporary, lasting only for that chain battle. The multiplication takes place before the battle begins; your drop rate multiplier does not change between reductions.

The maximum drop rate before chain battle multiplication is 999.

The Remix versions added a new thread ability called Drop Kick, which adds the effect of an extra fusion star per level of the ability. This is not affected by chaining however. Moreover, the Fusion mini-games in the Remix version add an extra drop star for every whole number multiplier achieved (presumably this effect only triggers against enemies killed by the Fusion itself).

Thus, the formula for total drop rate during a fight is:

TDR = BDR * ((ML - AL + FM + LP + 1) * Chain + DK + FM)

Some pins have a default drop rate that is so low you cannot get a 100% drop rate without utilizing chain battles. These are all of those pins:

Obtaining Pins of Lower Difficulty Levels

Drops are normally determined by the current Difficulty you've set the game to, but if you fail the drop rate's chance then it tries to get the drops of lower Difficulty levels. It goes down through each difficulty drop rate until you do get a pin, or fail the Easy Difficulty Drop Rate and get nothing from that Noise.

So if you are on a higher Difficulty, then you may get a drop of a lower difficulty by:

Of course, you can also get drops from lower difficulties by changing to the lower Difficulty from the Phone Menu.

NEO: The World Ends with You

When a Noise is defeated, the items it drops are calculated as follows:

For example, suppose you defeat a Dixiefrog on Hard with an x4 drop multiplier. The Hard drop for a Dixiefrog is 500 Yen at 10% chance. Multiply by 4 because of the drop multiplier, and you have a 40% chance of getting 500 Yen. If you don't get the 500 Yen, the game then considers the Medium drop, which is 100 Yen at 30%. 30% * 4 is 120% so you will always get the 100 Yen. So defeating a Hard Dixiefrog at x4 has a 40% chance of 500 Yen and a 60% chance of 100 Yen (because 60% is the chance of not getting the 500 Yen, but if you don't get that, you definitely get the 100)

Drop rate can be increased by some Social Network abilities.

If a "Tasty bonus" is obtained in a restaurant, the player can get +1 drop rate permanently, although this is rare.
